The "lame" - small erosive furrows, typical of the Apulian countryside- strongly characterize the spatial morphology of the Park; they are linear incisions in the ground perpendicular to the coastline, with a flat bottom and quite sloping sides, which originated from the erosive action of surface waters. They are fossil rivers, as evidenced by the presence of ancient rivers, which formed the riverbed. Even today these channels ensure the runoff of the surface waters from the torrential Murgia hills to the sea, after they cross plain of olive groves, and are therefore considered real "ecological corridors". The rich Maquis shrubland, which grows inside them, makes the lame functional to the mobility of wildlife, that use them as a shelter and connection between the hill and the sea. In the wall cavity dwelling and migratory birds, diurnal and nocturnal raptors, and the tangled vegetation provides shelter for small mammals, occasionally disturbed by the agrarian activities. A large variety of predatory species carries out activities in the surrounding countryside, bringing a lot of benefits to the agriculture.

Along the sides of the lame there are caves that represent the oldest traces of human presence in this part of Puglia. Here the man has left numerous evidences: location of oil processing and shelter for animals, real rock villages.
